This iconographical scheme refers to the feast day of the Archangels, the 8th of November of the liturgical cycle of the church. This specific icon was made probably to be brought out every such day in the icon-stand, during the mass. It has been signed and dated in 1666 by the painter, Emmanuel Tzanes, who worked in Corfu and Venice. It is not known how or when the icon reached the island of Patmos.
