The Lamentation
BXM 1560 The Lamentation. This icon is signed by the Cretan artist Emmanuel Lambardos. It reproduces an iconographic type that was developed in Crete in the 15th c. and based on Palaiologan models. At the bottom of the icon there is a jar containing perfume for the care of the dead body.
